Careers at Cortexa

Founding Practice Partnerships Lead

Cortexa is hiring its first Practice Partnerships Lead to build relationships with owners of independent group therapy practices and introduce them to Cortexa. You’ll work directly with our CEO, Amay Makhija.

About Cortexa

Cortexa is a membership for independent therapy practices. Our team runs the front desk, intake, billing and payroll for group practices, and our analytics give owners a clear view of how their practice is performing.

Cortexa began at Gaya Therapy, the group practice Amay and his wife Gaya built to more than 15 clinicians across New York, New Jersey and California in under two years. Our team works together in person in New York.

About the role

This is a founding role. You’ll be the first person at Cortexa dedicated to working with practice owners, and Amay leads each owner’s conversation about joining Cortexa. You’ll work as an individual contributor for your first two to three quarters, then help hire and develop the team that grows around you.

What you’ll do

  • Identify and reach out to owners of outpatient therapy and behavioral health group practices with 5 to 30 clinicians, through Psychology Today, Google, owner communities, roundtables and referrals.
  • Meet with practice owners in person and by phone, learn how their practice runs, and introduce Cortexa where it can help.
  • Respond to owner inquiries the same day.
  • Arrange introductory calls between interested owners and Amay, and brief him on what you’ve learned.
  • Share results from practices we work with, and connect prospective owners with current members who can speak to their experience.
  • Represent Cortexa at owner events and roundtables.
  • Keep an accurate record of every practice you’re working with in our CRM, using our existing outreach tools and calendar and improving them over time.

What you’ll bring

  • Experience selling to, growing or supporting independent group therapy or behavioral health practices (rather than solo providers or large health systems).
  • Several years in a practice growth, partnerships, practice success or sales role at a company that serves therapists, such as an insurance network platform, an EHR or a practice management company.
  • A working understanding of how group practice owners run their business, and the ability to talk with them as a peer.
  • Comfort being the only person in this function and managing your own outreach, scheduling and follow-up.
  • A belief that independent practices should be able to stay independent rather than join a larger network.
  • An existing network of practice owners is a strong plus.
  • Based in New York or willing to relocate. This role is in person.

This role may not be a fit if you’re looking for

  • A quota-carrying sales role, or to manage a team from the start.
  • A marketing or advertising role.
  • A position where someone else handles outreach.

How we’ll measure success

  • Regular conversations with owners of 5 to 30 clinician group practices, and introductory calls booked with Amay.
  • Owners who arrive at those calls already familiar with Cortexa and how it could help their practice.
  • An accurate, current record of every practice you’re working with.
  • Over time, a clear recommendation on the team’s next hires, and support in hiring them.

Compensation

  • Base salary of $120,000 to $180,000.
  • Uncapped commission on every practice you bring to Cortexa that signs and becomes a client. There is no sales quota.
  • Meaningful equity in the form of stock options, vesting over four years with a one-year cliff.

How to apply

Email us your résumé and a short note about a practice owner who chose to work with you, and why. Our process is a call with Amay, an in-person conversation with our founders, and a decision.
